KIPRUN KD900X

£129.99 Decathlon’s own-brand has followed the industry’s lead and produced their first carbon-plated model

Decathlon, famed for its affordable range of sports attire, has cranked things up with the launch of what the brand is calling its ‘first-ever super-shoe: the Kiprun KD900X’. It retails for £130, which by our records is the first time they’ve broken the £100 barrier.

So what justifies the three-digit hit? That’s down to the trend of the times, namely a carbon plate, in the Kiprun’s case cushioned between two layers of Pebax foam.

The Kiprun KD900X (225g for a UK size 8, with a drop of 8mm) is a collaboration between Decathlon Sports Lab and Arkema, a French company who specialise in material technology. It’s from Arkema that Decathlon has chosen that Pebax foam, which in sync with the carbon plate is mooted to balance comfort, stiffness and stability, while boosting energy return. We’re looking forward to slipping our feet into these to see how they might compare with the latest Nike Air Zoom Alphaflys that retail for £269.95. If they get anywhere near the Nike’s performance, we’ll save £140 and go for the Kipruns! decathlon.co.uk
