HOW TO RUN THROUGH WINTER

Make sure you can meet your run training goals consistently throughout the off-season by selecting the right kit…

1) HAT AND GLOVES

Opt for lightweight gloves first and then add mitts if it’s still too cold. A hat or headband is a great option if conditions call for it, but beware of overheating. A head tube, such as a Buff, is a versatile option here as it can be worn in a range of different ways. Trimtex recommends their Pro Classics Gloves (€53) and their Neck (€14) product.

2) WATERPROOF RUNNING JACKET

A waterproof running jacket’s a must for the British winter. Not only will it be a barrier to the elements, but it’ll also help you stand out if it’s bright or featuring reflective detailing. Choose one that’s lightweight and ventilates well. Trimtex suggest you go for their Instinct 2.0 Jacket (€69).

3) HEADTORCH

Pick one that’s lightweight, fits securely, has a moisture-wicking headband and can be recharged via USB. Consider options with 200 lumens.

4) BASE LAYER AND TIGHTS

When the temperature really takes a tumble, you should consider thermal tights and a long- sleeve base layer. They’re lightweight but warm, while that lack of bulk ensures nothing interferes with your running efficiency. A neck zip is recommended, as it allows you to dump heat easily, while breathable, high-wicking fabrics are a must. Low-profile seams are also key to comfort. Trimtex recommends their Core Ultralight range.
