Training for a triathlon is a big achievement, but you don’t necessarily need a big budget, as 220’s Kate shows in her training runs! STEVE SAYERS

FROM THE EDITOR…

There’s no doubting the fact that as 2022 rumbles on, things are becoming a lot more expensive. So with that in mind, we’ve given this issue a bit of a budget theme. Triathlon is often seen as a very expensive sport and if you choose to buy top-end and chase marginal gains through kit, then it certainly can be. I’m a big believer in investing in the engine first, though – after all, you can have all the fancy gear in the world but if your swim, bike and run skills are lacking then it’s not going to do much good. So think training first and gear second – and turn to p22 to read our top advice and tips on how to access training for less, find races to enter that don’t cost the earth and how to source budget-friendlybut-still-top-quality kit. Enjoy the issue!
