An intriguing new event is set to join the pro circuit this spring, with the first-ever Couples Championship to take place in March at Fort De Soto Park in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The event will see professional triathletes team up with the fellow pro that they’re in a relationship with to compete with other couples for a $100,000 prize pot. To quality, athletes must have been in a relationship for six months or longer.

Each partner will have to complete a 0.25-mile swim, a 10-mile bike and a 3.1-mile run twice over in a relay-style format.

So far 14 couples are lined up to complete, including Aaron Royle and Non Stanford, Vincent Luis and Taylor Spivey, and Jaryd Browne and Emma Pallant-Browne. Here’s a full list of everyone competing:

In addition to these teams, a charity trio made up of Brooke Bennett, Phil Gaimon and Gwen Jorgensen will also be competing. They won’t be eligible for the prize fund, but the organisers will donate $10,000 to charity for every couple that beats them.

The event, sponsored by Waterfall Bank, is set to take place on Sunday 6 March 2022 and will be available to watch via a livestream. Pre-registration for this will be open on 27 February. Find out more on the official Couple’s Championship website.
