Ellis<\/strong>, who will be keen to perform well following a heart-breaking DNF due to a mechanical at the Tokyo Paralympics in August. Reigning world champion <strong>Hector Catal\u00e1 Laparra (ESP)<\/strong> will also be vying for gold having taken silver in Tokyo. And making their world champs\u2019 debut will be <strong>GB\u2019s Oscar Kelly,<\/strong> guided by Charlie Harding, <strong>Owen Cravens (USA)<\/strong> and<strong> Oliver Gunning (IRL)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s field, the clear favourite is the current Paralympic and two-time world champion <strong>Susana Rodriguez (ESP)<\/strong>. Keeping her honest will be Rio silver medallist and Tokyo fourth-place finisher <strong>Alison Peasgood (GB)<\/strong>, guided by Brooke Gillies. Also look out for another World Champs newbie in the GB camp, <strong>Katie Crowhurst<\/strong> guided by Grace France.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PTWC<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Only an uncharacteristic mistake or mechanical will likely prevent Dutch paratriathlon super star <strong>Jetze Plat<\/strong> from taking his sixth consecutive world title in the wheelchair class. The double Paralympic champion hasn\u2019t lost a race since 2015. His main contenders include teammate <strong>Geert Schipper<\/strong>, looking to finish the season strong after a disappointing fourth place in Tokyo, <strong>Florian Brungraber (AUT)<\/strong>, <strong>Giovanni Achenza (ITA)<\/strong> and <strong>Ahmed Andaloussi (FRA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, it\u2019s <strong>Lauren Parker (AUS)<\/strong> with the target on her back. But most eyes will be fixed on <strong>Mohammed Lahna (USA)<\/strong>, who\u2019s returning to the paratri world stage after a three-year hiatus.<\/p>\n<p>On the women\u2019s side, the race could come down to a two-way fight between the Tokyo silver and bronze medallists, <strong>Hailey Danz (USA) <\/strong>and<strong> Veronika Yoko Plebani (ITA)<\/strong>. But let\u2019s not rule out the reigning world champion and fourth-place Tokyo finisher <strong>Fran Brown (GBR)<\/strong>, who\u2019s hungry for that podium.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PTS3<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, <strong>Nico Van Der Burgt (NED)<\/strong> will be looking to de-throne multiple world champion Daniel Molina of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>With only three women competing in the PTS3 class, the podium will be decided among <strong>Elise Marc (FRA), Andrea Miguelez Ranz (ESP) <\/strong>and<strong> Evgeniya Koroleva (RTF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PTS4<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Alexis Hanquinquant (FRA)<\/strong> goes into the 2021 World Champs as the clear favourite as the reigning Paralympic champion and world champion. He\u2019s also won every single race he\u2019s started since 2019. Chasing him will be <strong>Hideki Uda (JPN), Michael Taylor (GBR) <\/strong>and<strong> Alejandro Sanchez Palomero (ESP)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Like the PTS3 category only three athletes will line up on Friday \u2013\u00a0<strong>Spain\u2019s Marta Frances Gomez, Elke Van Engelen (GER) <\/strong>and<strong> Kelly Elmlinger (USA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>PTS5<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div title in Valencia three weeks ago. It\u2019s really his race to lose.<\/p>\n<p>For the women, reigning Tokyo champ Lauren Steadman is a DNS so expect a showdown between Tokyo silver and bronze medallists <strong>Grace Norman (USA) <\/strong>and<strong> GB\u2019s Claire Cashmore<\/strong>. Cashmore also swept up the European title a few weeks ago and is keen to retain her world title from 2019 (the last time the Worlds were held).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s definitely something I\u2019ve thought about,\u2019 said Cashmore pre-race. \u201cYou want to retain that title, you still want to be reigning world champion.
