In almost every case, we go from doing next to nothing with our arms, right into swimming at a decent speed. That\u2019s stress that your shoulders aren\u2019t necessarily ready to handle.<\/p>\n<p>While this isn\u2019t a big deal on any given day, it adds up over time, particularly for those with pre-existing shoulder problems. To combat this issue, it\u2019s critical to find ways to ease your shoulders into each workout.<\/p>\n<p>While doing certain mobility exercises before swimming can help, many find it\u2019s tough to stay consistent with doing them, particularly when you\u2019re crunched for time and you want to get your full swim.<\/p>\n<p>You need a solution that\u2019s effective, yet still feels like you\u2019re productively working toward swimming goals. off <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/swim-training\/swim-fin-workouts-dave-scott-explains-how-they-help-your-training-and-key-sessions\/&quot;\">swimming with fins<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This greatly reduces the shoulder stress you\u2019ll experience as the legs are doing much more of the work to start. It also takes a lot less effort to move your arms through the arm cycle as the fins are working to push you forward a lot more than normal.<\/p>\n<p>This all adds up to a smoother transition from rest to work, allowing your shoulders time to warm-up, lubricate and get ready for the work at hand.<\/p>\n<p>The added benefit\u2019s that you\u2019re still swimming, so you can still work toward your <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/swim-training\/swim-technique-masterclass-refine-your-front-crawl-for-race-day\/&quot;\">technique<\/a><\/strong> and fitness goals. As an alternative, try underwater recovery <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/swim-training\/freestyle-swim-technique-how-to-improve-your-rotation-and-position\/&quot;\">freestyle<\/a><\/strong>. It\u2019s performed exactly as it sounds like.<\/p>\n<p>Simply recover your arms under the water rather than over the water.
