With 72 countries within the Commonwealth expected to participate across the 11-day schedule, triathlon has three events in the Games this year, with individual sprint, paratri PTVI and mixed team relay events set to take place.<\/p>\n
This will be triathlon\u2019s third appearance at the Games after its debut in Manchester 2002, while it\u2019ll be paratri\u2019s second time being included after the wheelchair (PTWC) category raced at Gold Coast 2018.<\/p>\n
While Jonny Brownlee had to withdraw from the Games<\/a><\/strong> due to injury, Team England\u2019s still packed full of Olympians and podium hopefuls<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the PTVI category will be racing in the Games for the first time, with world champion Dave Ellis<\/a><\/strong> and Paralympian Melissa Reid<\/a><\/strong> boosting Team England<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s medal hopes.<\/p>\n Read on to find out how to watch the triathlon events live\u2026<\/p>\n The athletes will take to Birmingham\u2019s leafy Sutton Park for their sprint-distance triathlon. The park\u2019s set 10km north of the centre in Sutton Coldfield and boasts 2,000 acres of lush parkland and lakes, making it one of the largest urban parks in Europe.<\/p>\n This year the individual and paratri races will follow a sprint-distance format after the success of the paratri race at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.<\/p>\n The biggest of seven lakes at 28 acres, Powell\u2019s Pool will be the setting for the 750m swim legs. The following 20km cycle will set off from Sutton Park and follow four laps of a 5km loop along local roads, while the final 5km run will be within the park itself over two 2.5km laps.<\/p>\n The mixed team relay event will comprise of two men and two women, with the legs alternating and starting with the men for leg one. Each athlete will complete a 300m swim, 5km cycle and 2km run before slapping the hand of their teammate to hand over the relay leg.<\/p>\n The action in Birmingham officially kicks off on Thursday 28 July with an evening opening ceremony at Birmingham\u2019s Alexander Stadium. The following morning on Friday 29 July, both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s individual races are set to take place between 11:00-16:00 BST, each followed by a medal ceremony for the podium winners.<\/p>\n After a day of no triathlon, the racing returns with the men\u2019s and women\u2019s PTVI (visually impaired) events and mixed team relay on Sunday 31 July from 11:00-16:00.<\/p>\n For a full daily schedule of events, check out the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games schedule<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n All events will be broadcast live over 200 hours of action across 11 live streams.
