{"id":28188,"date":"2024-03-01T18:23:09","date_gmt":"2024-03-01T16:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/37c11a9e-099f-40ef-a98c-997567b11b9c"},"modified":"2024-05-29T00:55:59","modified_gmt":"2024-05-28T22:55:59","slug":"two-more-ways-to-challenge-your-swim-drills","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/220triathlon\/rss_feed\/two-more-ways-to-challenge-your-swim-drills\/","title":{"rendered":"Two more ways to challenge your swim drills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"><\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Friday, 01 March 2024 at 16:23 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p><strong>A good drill can make a big difference in helping you improve your skills.\u00a0But to continue to keep learning, you have to continue to perform novel activities.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p><p>You\u2019re not going to keeping learning by repeating a drill you\u2019re already familiar with, so you need to create a new challenge.\u00a0<\/p><p>However, that doesn\u2019t necessarily mean you have to change the drills you\u2019re using.\u00a0Instead, you can change how you use them, and you can do so quickly and easily.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-stroke-count\">Stroke count<\/h2><p>Start counting your strokes when you perform drills.\u00a0Try to use fewer strokes and try to use more strokes.\u00a0By changing your stroke count, you\u2019re changing how you perform the drill.\u00a0 <\/p><p>If you give yourself objective numbers to hit, say 10 strokes, you\u2019re going to challenge yourself to perform the drill differently, and hit an objective goal.\u00a0 <\/p><p>Now, performing the same drill is going to create a much better learning opportunity.\u00a0 <\/p><p>Reducing the number of strokes you take is going to improve your efficiency and increasing the number of strokes you take is going to allow you to work the drill at higher speeds.<br\/>\u00a0<br\/>For instance, you could focus on taking as few strokes as possible with the drill \u2018Power Pulls\u2019, and that is going to encourage you to create a lot of propulsion with each stroke.\u00a0<\/p><p>The stroke count encourages you to find better solutions to achieve lower numbers.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Power Pulls with Buoy\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YZeGf7KImpM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen=\"\"\/><\/div><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stroke rate<\/h2><p><strong><a href=\"\/training\/swim-training\/how-to-swim-faster-with-a-tempo-trainer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Using a tempo trainer<\/a><\/strong> can be a great way to positively impact your swimming.\u00a0It can also be a great way to positively impact your drilling.\u00a0<\/p><p>As with stroke count, it can be useful to challenge your drills by using low stroke rate and high stroke rates.\u00a0Using low stroke rates is going to force you to slow down.\u00a0<\/p><p>Just like it can be more difficult to ride a bike very slowly, performing certain drills with very slow stroke rates can be more difficult as well.\u00a0 <\/p><p>At the other extreme, it can also be very challenging to perform your drills at faster stroke rates, where you have to ensure that you\u2019re performing with precision and speed.<\/p><p>As a specific example, you can perform \u2018Underwater Recovery\u2019 using a fast stroke rate.\u00a0That\u2019s going to challenge you to execute great rotational timing at higher rates of movement.\u00a0 <\/p><p>It\u2019s one thing to do so slow, but\u2019s another level of difficulty to do so fast!<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Underwater Recovery\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YdwsAeCR8rs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
