Today, the 36-year-old announced her plans to retire at the end of the season.<\/p><p>The news comes just months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/news\/athletes\/the-last-dance-jan-frodeno-reflects-on-his-phenomenal-career-in-triathlon\"><strong>the retirement of Jan Frodeno<\/strong><\/a>, another athlete who displayed tri greatness over many years.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-time-is-right\"><strong>\u201cThe time is right\u201d<\/strong><\/h2><p>Ryf made the announcement via <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C3-JD4rN175\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a post on her Instagram page<\/a><\/strong>, saying: \u201cAfter 20 years in professional sport, 10 world titles and breaking the world record, I\u2019ve reached more than I ever dreamed of.<\/p><p>\u201cThat\u2019s why I am sad and happy to announce that this will be my last season as a professional athlete. It simply feels like the time is right.\u201d<\/p><p>The Swiss athlete, who has won both the Ironman World Championship and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship five times apiece, went on to say: \u201cMy body has achieved extreme performances and I\u2019m very grateful that I\u2019ve been able to push it so far.<\/p><p>\u201cSport has taught me to be tough, it has allowed me to find and define myself and create my own path.<\/p><p>\u201cThroughout my career I\u2019ve met many amazing people who made this journey so special. I am so grateful for the support I felt through all these years from my family, friends and coaches, especially Brett. Without them my success would not have been possible.<\/p><p>\u201cI\u2019m truly grateful for all your support through the years. And to my partners, a huge thank you, for standing by my side through the highs and the lows.<\/p><p>\u201cI am still filled with passion for the sport and my love for it has grown even more throughout the years.\u201d<\/p><p>Ryf has been at the height of the sport ever since making a splash at the Olympics in 2008, aged 21, where she finished seventh, and her career has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/news\/athletes\/who-is-daniela-ryf\"><strong>littered with silverware<\/strong><\/a> ever since.<\/p><p>Among the many medals were also records, with Ryf smashing the long-distance world record by almost 10 minutes with a time of 8:08:21 at Challenge Roth.<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/news\/triathlon-world-records\/\"><strong>What are the fastest times in triathlon?<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Daniela Ryf\u2019s race plans for 2024<\/strong><\/h2><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"\/><p>Alongside her announcement, Ryf also revealed her race plans for her final year of professional racing, and it\u2019s certainly a busy but exciting schedule.<\/p><p>She\u2019ll kick off her season with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/news\/how-to-watch-the-t100-triathlon-world-tour\"><strong>PTO\u2019s T100<\/strong><\/a> in Miami and will follow that up with five more starts at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/news\/pto-reveals-full-calendar-for-2024-world-tour\"><strong>T100 events<\/strong><\/a>, including the final in November.<\/p><p>In addition to that, Ryf will also be targeting a sixth Ironman world title as she plans to head to Nice for the world championship in September.<\/p><p>Check out her full schedule below:<\/p><ul><li><strong>9 March:<\/strong> T100 Miami<\/li><li><strong>21 April:<\/strong> Ironman South Africa<\/li><li><strong>8 June:<\/strong> T100 California<\/li><li><strong>28-29 July:<\/strong> T100 London<\/li><li><strong>22 September:<\/strong> Ironman World Championship Nice<\/li><li><strong>19 October:<\/strong> T100 Las Vegas<\/li><li><strong>17 November:<\/strong> T100 Dubai<\/li><li><strong>30 November:<\/strong> T100 Final<\/li><\/ul><p>Ryf is without doubt one of the best triathletes we\u2019ve seen since the sport began.
