Even the best drills can get stale, and you need to switch it up.<\/p><p>However, you don\u2019t necessarily want to change what you\u2019re doing, but how you do it.\u00a0The key here is not just to take one of the ideas below and add it to your training.\u00a0The goal is to use multiple options and consistently rotate between them.\u00a0<\/p><p>The more you use and the more you master, the more opportunity you\u2019ll have to improve your skills in a powerful way, without having to change the drills you\u2019re doing.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-training-aids\">Training aids<\/h2><p>A simple way to change any drill is to start using different training aids.\u00a0You can use a <strong><a href=\"\/gear\/swim\/training-kit\/best-pull-buoys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">buoy<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"\/gear\/swim\/training-kit\/best-swim-fins-for-pool-training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fins<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"\/gear\/swim\/training-kit\/best-swim-hand-paddles-for-swim-training\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">paddles<\/a><\/strong>, a <strong><a href=\"\/gear\/swim\/training-kit\/best-swimming-snorkels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">snorkel<\/a><\/strong>, or any other toy you have access to.\u00a0<\/p><p>Regardless of the training aid you use, you\u2019ll instantly be performing the drill differently in a subtle yet meaningful way.\u00a0Those subtle changes can help provide key insights into how you can move through the water with greater speed and less effort.\u00a0<\/p><p>If it feels like you\u2019ve mastered a drill, changing the training aids can get you learning again.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hand-postures\">Hand postures<\/h2><p>Many of the key swimming skills involve learning how to move more water with your arms.\u00a0As a result, many of the popular drills are designed to improve these skills.\u00a0<\/p><p>You can increase the effectiveness of these drills by\u2026<\/p><p>Closing your fists<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Closed Fist Freestyle\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/H2MGdXxZSsY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
