But the idea of music cranking up your efforts when <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/race-fatigue-how-to-beat-it-mentally-and-physically\/&quot;\">mentally fatigued<\/a> is, and is a subject drilled down into by a team from the University of Edinburgh.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Researchers recruited 18 fitness enthusiasts and split them into two groups of nine. One group alternated between low and <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/what-is-high-intensity-interval-training-hiit\/&quot;\">high intensity<\/a><\/strong> to test <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/run-training\/running-what-are-the-advantages-of-interval-training\/&quot;\">interval running<\/a><\/strong> capacity, the other completed a 5km <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.220triathlon.com\/training\/bike-training\/time-trial-benefits-for-triathletes\/&quot;\">time-trial<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Beforehand, both completed a computer-based cognitive test to put them in a fatigued state, and then ran with and without self-selected motivational music.
