Wh<\/span><\/strong>en temperatures drop in open water, many triathletes will head back to the pool. But that\u2019s a shame, because cold-water swimming has many benefits for our physical and mental health \u2013 you just need a good thermal wetsuit for swimming.<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Plus, if you can swim through the winter you\u2019ll boost your skills ready for next year\u2019s race season. We won\u2019t sugar-coat it, though, UK winter swimming is a different beast. It gets cold in there. Very cold!<\/span><\/p>\n

Expect to do shorter swims and prepare to take care of yourself to avoid cold-water shock, hypothermia and the after-drop. Helpfully though, many brands are now offering thermal-lined swimming wetsuits which make a huge difference. <\/span><\/p>\n

220<\/i>\u2019s editor (an experienced cold-water swimmer) tested ours in UK lakes ranging from 3\u00b0C to 9\u00b0C. She also added gloves and boots, plus a neoprene cap. Bring on the freeze\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
