The soldier turned curlew conservationist and nature writer decided to tackle a nigh-on 1,000-mile trek from the Solent to Cape Wrath, largely alone and avoiding roads, to visit as many nature restoration projects as possible, while keeping pace with the northward march of greening oaks.
