Join us as we go behind-the-scenes to discover the filming locations that bring the detective drama Grantchester to life.
Are you, like us, a fan of Grantchester, the 1950s period drama featuring part-time sleuth, vicar Will Davenport and detective inspector Geordie Keating?
The series has been adapted from the fictional Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie (set in the real-life village Grantchester) and first aired in 2014. Since then, the crime-busting duo have had their ups and downs, affairs, broken marriages, but they always manage to solve the crime.
Where is Grantchester filmed?
Believe it or not Grantchester is actually filmed in Grantchester, a village near Cambridge. Seeing as Grantchester is a real place, and where James Runcie set his novels, it is only fitting that the series should be filmed there.
Viewers will recognise the village church as Will’s church, along with his home the vicarage – although the vicarage interior shots are filmed at an old building on a farm in Lemsford, a village in Hertfordshire.
Every crime-solving drama needs a pub and Grantchester’s The Green Man fits the bill nicely, although interior shots are often filmed at The Eagle in Cambridge and The Windmill in Chipperfield, Hertfordshire.
And if you wander through the village you may recognise other sites often used, including Daniel’s house and the village hall.
While many a romantic stroll – and dead body discovery – has taken place in the beautiful Grantchester Meadows along the River Cam.
Scenes have also been filmed at various places in nearby Cambridge, including King’s Parade, Trinity Lane, Senate House Passage and various Cambridge University spots, like the King’s College campus.
