Drink in the sights and sounds of a traditional Christmas fair at Scotland\u2019s oldest inhabited residence. <\/p>\n\n

Originally a hunting lodge for Scotland\u2019s kings and queens, magnificent Traquair House \u2013 whose main building dates from the 16th century \u2013 seems plucked from a fairytale, especially when covered in a dusting of snow. <\/p>\n\n

On offer at the house\u2019s two-day Christmas opening are stalls and craft workshops, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts, Santa in a luxurious grotto, music and puppet shows. Among this year\u2019s stallholders are local producers selling herbs grown in Peebles, handmade cashmere knitwear and craft gins infused with gorse flowers. <\/p>\n\n

You can also explore the grounds on Lady Louisa\u2019s Walk, which leads by Quair Water and on to the River Tweed. <\/p>\n\n
