How to follow the countryside code<\/h2>\n
1. <\/strong>Keep dogs under close control but remember \u2013 if a farm animal chases you, it\u2019s much safer to let your dog off the lead.<\/p>\n2. <\/strong>Stay informed on where and when you can walk in your area. Some areas of land are restricted if work is being carried out and during wildlife breeding seasons.<\/p>\n3. <\/strong>Leave gates as you find them and if you\u2019re in a group, make sure the last person knows how to leave the gate.<\/p>\n4. <\/strong>You should always stick to paths if possible but this is especially important in a field where crops are growing.<\/p>\n5. <\/strong>Use gates and stiles where possible, to avoid damaging fences, hedges and walls.<\/p>\n6. <\/strong>Leave livestock alone, even if an animal appears to be in distress. In this case, contact the farmer.<\/p>\n7. <\/strong>Litter isn\u2019t just dangerous to wildlife, dumping rubbish is a criminal offence.<\/p>\n8<\/strong>. Give farm animals plenty of space, especially if they are with their young.<\/p>\n9.<\/strong> By law, dogs must be on short leads in most areas of open country between\u00a0March 1st and July 31st (to help protect nesting birds), and at all times near farm animals.<\/p>\n10.<\/strong> Farmers are entitled to destroy a dog that\u00a0injures or worries\u00a0their animals \u2013 unless you completely trust your dog, keep it on a lead around livestock.<\/p>\n11<\/strong>.\u00a0Clean up dog mess \u2013 it can cause infections such as neosporosis<\/a>. Make sure your dog is wormed regularly and take faeces back to the nearest bin \u2013 dog poo bags are a blemish on the countryside<\/a>.<\/p>\n12<\/strong>. By law,\u00a0cyclists must give way\u00a0to walkers and horse riders on bridleways.<\/p>\n13.\u00a0<\/strong>Busy traffic on small country roads can be unpleasant and dangerous to local people, visitors and wildlife \u2013 slow down and where possible, leave your vehicle at home<\/p><\/body><\/html>\n
