Members of the public have been invited to join the search for \u2018Britain\u2019s Biggest Hedgehog Street\u2019 by connecting as many gardens as possible to help hedgehogs.<\/p>\n

Connecting gardens will allow local hedgehogs<\/strong><\/a> to roam freely and safely in search of food, mates and materials for nesting. These connections are called \u2018Hedgehog Highways\u2019 and simply involve building a CD-sized gap under fences and walls.<\/p>\n

When gardens have been connected, people are invited to submit entries online<\/strong><\/a>. The highest number of linked gardens will be crowned \u2018Britain\u2019s Biggest Hedgehog Street\u2019, with prizes including plaques and a hamper.<\/p>\n

Hedgehogs were listed as \u2018vulnerable to extinction\u2019 on the Red List for Britain\u2019s Mammals in 2020, and a report released earlier this year revealed that hedgehog populations are continuing to decline, with some having experienced losses of up to 75% since the turn of the millennium<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The People\u2019s Trust for Endangered Species has teamed up with The British Hedgehog Preservation Society for the \u2018Hedgehog Stree<\/strong><\/a>t\u2019 nationwide campaign, with this particular project running over the summer holidays until Saturday 10 September.<\/p>\n
