There are numerous station walks along the historic Talyllyn Railway<\/a> line, including the Quarryman\u2019s Trail<\/a> around Bryn Eglwys, and the Dolgoch Falls loop. But perhaps the most rewarding is the Cascade Trail from Nant Gwernol Station.<\/p>\n

To alight here after rain is to enter a sparkling world, and this short trail alongside a chattering stream \u2013 where the woodland is luminous, and the air lucid \u2013 makes the very most of it.<\/p>\n

Nant Gwernol walk<\/h2>\n

1.1 miles\/1.8km | 45 minutes | easy\u2013moderate<\/em><\/p>\n

1. Into the woods<\/strong><\/p>\n

Follow the yellow waymarkers across the footbridge. Ascend slate steps into Coed Nant Gwernol<\/a>, a broadleaf woodland where grey wagtails flash upstream and pied flycatchers zip through sessile oaks.<\/p>\n

2. Bridging stream<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cross the next footbridge. Water slides into silver jacuzzis ensconced by ferns<\/a> and bryophytes.<\/p>\n

3. Tram trundle<\/strong><\/p>\n

Returning by the old tramway, your focus drifts to the hills rising above. Here are quarry ghosts \u2013 slate fences and disappearing tracks. Descend to the station by Allt Wyllt incline, down which finished slates were conveyed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Find the Talyllyn Railway \u2013 which includes the booking office, shop, museum and King\u2019s Caf\u00e9 \u2013 at Tywyn Wharf Station. An Explorer Ticket (ride all day) costs \u00a322. talyllyn.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n
