Our <a href=\"\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/days-out\/guide-to-britains-national-parks-wildlife-history-best-walks\/&quot;\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"&quot;noopener&quot; noopener noreferrer\">national parks<\/a> are a great place to start, as well as Dark Sky Parks ad Dark Sky Reserves. When meteors enter Earth\u2019s atmosphere they \u2018burn up\u2019, leaving steaks of light\u00a0in their wake. At some point during the shower there will be a \u2018peak\u2019 period when the rate of meteors is at its highest \u2013 this is usually the best time to head outside and look to the skies.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the meteor showers to look out for in 2022.<\/p>\n<h3>Perseids<\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs: 17 July\u201324 Aug |\u00a0Peak: 12\u201313 August<\/em><\/p>\n<p>During its peak, over 100 meteors may be seen in just one hour, each with a train. Associated with Comet Swift-Tuttle.<\/p>\n<h3>Draconids<\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs: 6\u201310 October |\u00a0Peak:\u00a08\u20139 October<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In 1933 and 1946, Draconids produced some of the most active displays in the 20th century. In recent years, however, it has been a less vigorous meteor shower than most, with a variable rate per hour.<span class=\"&quot;Apple-converted-space&quot;\">\u00a0 <\/span><br\/><b\/><\/p>\n<h3>Orionids<span class=\"&quot;Apple-converted-space&quot;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs: 2 Oct\u20137 Nov |\u00a0Peak: 21 October\u20132 November<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thought to have come from the famous Halley\u2019s Comet, these fast-moving meteors fall at a rate\u00a0of 25 per hour. The Orionids sometimes produce bright fireballs.<\/p>\n<h3>Taurids<\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs:\u00a010 Sep\u201320 Nov (Southern H);\u00a020 Oct\u201310\u00a0Dec (Northern H) |\u00a0Peak: 12\u201313 November<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Slow-moving meteors but sometimes very bright, with an average rate\u00a0of five per hour. This long-lasting shower occurs every year from late October to the end of November, peaking in mid November. Watch for fireballs this year.<\/p>\n<h3>Leonids<\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs:\u00a06\u201330 November |\u00a0Peak: 17\u201318 November<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Fast, bright meteors with fine trains, associated with Comet Tempel-Tuttle.<span class=\"&quot;Apple-converted-space&quot;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Geminids<\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs: 4\u201320 December |\u00a0Peak: 14\u201315 December<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Easier to spot than other showers on this list, Geminids typically has a rate of 150 fast-travelling meteors per hour.<\/p>\n<h3>Ursids peak<\/h3>\n<p><em>Occurs: 17-26 December |\u00a0Peak: 22\u201323 December<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This sparse shower produces five meteors at its peak.
