The New Forest<\/a> is anything but new. It was created by\u00a0William the Conqueror in 1079 as a place where he could hunt deer\u00a0and wild pigs \u2013 the so called\u00a0\u2018beasts of the chase\u2019.\u00a0Nowadays, the landscape\u2019s use has change dramatically, largely thanks to the designation of the New Forest National Park<\/a>\u00a0in 2005.<\/p>\n

From vast heathland hills and ancient trees, to butterflies<\/a>, reptiles<\/a>, wading birds<\/a> and wild ponies<\/a>, the national park is a vital refuge for some of Britain\u2019s most precious species.<\/p>\n

The New Forest is also one of the largest remaining wildwoods<\/a> in Western Europe, famous for its abundant wildlife and birds. Here, in 220 square miles, animals are free to roam and wander.\u00a0 There are over 3,000 native ponies, donkeys, cattle, pigs and deer around the forest.<\/p>\n
