It weighed 1,000kg, as heavy as a small car \u2013 or a very large cow.<\/p><h3>Haggis hurling<\/h3><p>Haggis hurling is a sport. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/world-records\/66327-farthest-distance-to-throw-a-haggis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guinness World Records<\/a>, Lorne Coltart from Perthshire holds the record, throwing a haggis 66m in 2011 at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bearsdenmilngaviehighlandgames.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bearsden and Milngavie Highland Games<\/a>.<\/p><h3>Haggis animal<\/h3><p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk\/2003\/nov\/27\/travelnews.travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poll conducted by the Guardian<\/a> in 2003, a third of US visitors to Scotland believe haggis to be an animal.<\/p><h3>Haggis banned in the US<\/h3><p>Scottish haggis has been banned in the US since 1971, when it became illegal to import food from the UK containing sheep lung. In January 2023, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk\/news\/23274180.haggis-hit-america-first-time-50-years\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Glasgow Times<\/a> reported that food producer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macsween.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Macsween<\/a> &#8220;is gearing up to become the first company to serve Americans the Scottish delicacy since it was banned in 1971 because it contains sheep lungs.&#8221; However, US officials said &#8220;there are no plans to change that.&#8221; Watch this space.<\/p> <\/body><\/html>\n<hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know, haggis has been banned in the US since 1971?
