The charming moorland village of Edale \u2013 more correctly known as Grindsbrook Booth \u2013 is a Mecca for Peak District<\/a> \u201cbogtrotters\u201d, the name affectionately given to ramblers who enjoy the dubious pleasure of trekking across peat moorland. <\/p>

Situated under the southern edge of Kinder Scout<\/a>, at 636m (2,088ft) the highest point in the Peak District, Edale was recently named in several national polls as one of the best villages to live in England.\u00a0<\/p>

Edale – the start of the Pennine Way<\/h2>
It is perhaps best known to walkers as the starting point of Tom Stephenson\u2019s classic long-distance marathon, the\u00a0 Pennine Way<\/a>. This arduous 268-mile route up the backbone of England to Kirk Yetholm, just across the Scottish Border, sets off from the 300-year-old\u00a0 Nag\u2019s Head<\/a> public house\u00a0in Edale.\u00a0<\/p>

Things to do in Edale<\/h2>
The beautiful valley of Edale is threaded by the Sheffield to Stockport railway line built in 1894, a highly scenic line still fondly known as the\u00a0\u2018Ramblers\u2019 Route.\u2019\u00a0Edale station is at Grindsbrook Booth, along with the charming Victorian\u00a0Holy Trinity Parish Church, built in 1886, the village school and post office.\u00a0<\/p>
The Peak District National Park\u2019s\u00a0 Edale Visitor Centre<\/a>\u00a0is at Fieldhead, which is also the headquarters of the Moors for the Future project<\/a>, which has done so much to restore the precious peat moorlands of the South Pennines.\u00a0<\/p>

There is an easy circular three-mile walk is along the Pennine Way beneath Kinder\u2019s southern edge to Upper Booth and then back via Barber Booth.<\/p>
