But who was he?<\/strong> <\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Wainwright most famous for?<\/h2><p>Alfred Wainwright is best known for his series of seven books, <em>Pictorial Guides to the Lakeland Fells<\/em>, first published between 1955 and 1966. In these books, handwritten and illustrated with his own pen-and-ink drawings, he described routes on to 214 different fells, their natural features and the view from each summit. He also devised the 192-mile <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/coast-to-coast-walk\">Coast to Coast<\/a> long-distance hike from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/days-out\/day-out-fleswick-bay-st-bees-head-cumbria\">St Bees<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/best-walks-in-cumbria\">Cumbria<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/walk-robin-hoods-bay-north-yorkshire\">Robin Hood\u2019s Bay<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/best-walks-north-yorkshire\">North Yorkshire<\/a>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-was-alfred-wainwright-born\">When was Alfred Wainwright born?<\/h2><p>Wainwright was born in 1907, the youngest of four children.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where is Alfred Wainwright from?<\/h2><p>Wainwright was from the mill town of Blackburn, Lancashire.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When did Wainwright first visit the Lake District?<\/h2><p>Wainwright first visited the Lake District in 1830.
