Here is everything you need to know about the popular television presenter Matt Baker<\/strong><\/p> Matt Baker is one of the most familiar faces on television, having presented some of the country’s most popular programmes from The One Show<\/em> to Countryfile.<\/em><\/p> Matt Baker was almost a Christmas baby, being born on 23 December 1977\u00a0in Easington, County Durham, England.<\/p> Matt says he feels happiest on the family farm in Durham, where he grew up and went to school.<\/p> Matt married wife Nicola, who he married in 2004. They met at a disco when they were both teenagers.<\/p> Matt and Nicola have two children, Luke and Molly.<\/p> In 2021 Matt and his family moved back to this parents farm in Durham to help his parents run the farm<\/p> Matt studied at drama school in Edinburgh before auditioning for Blue Peter<\/em>. The showreel he sent in included footage of him reading a story, in the farmyard and home, and riding a unicycle!<\/p> Before landing the Blue Peter<\/em> job, Matt toured the north of the country as part of a 1970s comedy disco-dancing revival show called \u2018Disco Inferno\u2019.<\/p> Like many television presenters before him Matt got his big break on Blue Peter<\/em>. Another presenter who got their big break on Blue Peter is Helen Skelton<\/a>.<\/p> Matt won the BAFTA for best children’s television presenter two years in a row while on Blue Peter<\/em>, and a Royal Television Society award.<\/p> To help him settle into life on Blue Peter<\/em> Matt asked if he could have a dog on the show – a tradition among many presenters before him. Meg the collie joined Matt at just nine weeks old and came home with him when he left Blue Peter<\/em> in 2006.<\/p> Meg sadly passed away aged 11 but her bark lives on – it was recorded by the sound effects team on The Archers <\/em>show on BBC Radio 4. Whenever you hear the bark of a working dog on The Archers<\/em> that’s Meg!<\/p> Matt Baker is particularly famous for presenting The One Show <\/em>for nine years and Countryfile<\/a><\/em> for nearly a decade.
