Chances are if you\u2019ve ever\u00a0considered\u00a0learning to\u00a0dive,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0conjure up\u00a0images\u00a0of\u00a0tropical destinations with\u00a0warm waters. <\/strong><\/p>

However, you should consider sites closer to home say the experts at the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI)<\/a>. With\u00a020,000\u00a0miles of\u00a0diverse\u00a0coastline, glorious wildlife and a rich maritime history,\u00a0the UK\u00a0offers some of the\u00a0most\u00a0scenic\u00a0and exciting\u00a0dives\u00a0in the\u00a0world.<\/p>

The UK and Ireland are home to a catalogue of\u00a0 Marine Protected Areas,<\/a> thousands of historic\u00a0shipwrecks, and over 850 varieties of\u00a0marine life,\u00a0from crustaceans, conger eels, seahorses<\/a> and octopuses,\u00a0to jellyfish<\/a>, seals, dolphins, and even\u00a0 sharks<\/a>. So, there is plenty to see.<\/p>

Durgan \u2013 Helford Passage, Cornwall<\/h3>
<\/div><\/figure><p>Located between Falmouth and the Lizard Peninsula in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/uk-travel\/holiday-ideas\/essential-guide-to-visiting-cornwall\">Cornwall<\/a> and nestled within the entrance of the Helford River lies the serene village of Durgan.<\/p><p>Scuba diving at this site is suitable for both beginners and experienced divers. There\u2019s estimated to be thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/wildlife\/the-hidden-world-of-grey-seals\">grey seals<\/a> in the area, and they\u2019re very accustomed to visits by divers. She sank due to a collision with a German steam ship called <em>The Washington<\/em> who survived the crash while on her journey to New York.\u00a0<\/p><p>This is a popular dive wreck as it is perfect for novice and experienced divers. It has bags of marine life including large schools of bib and whiting, congor eels, crabs and shellfish.
