{"id":38445,"date":"2024-07-04T15:58:31","date_gmt":"2024-07-04T13:58:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/961b32fe-0def-40c8-a791-52f56100d15a"},"modified":"2024-07-04T17:26:41","modified_gmt":"2024-07-04T15:26:41","slug":"strange-tropical-seabird-from-the-galapagos-islands-spotted-in-dorset","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/bbccountryfile\/rss_feed\/strange-tropical-seabird-from-the-galapagos-islands-spotted-in-dorset\/","title":{"rendered":"Strange tropical seabird from the Gal\u00e1pagos Islands spotted in Dorset"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\">It&#8217;s the third time in eight years that a red-footed booby has been sighted in the UK. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By <\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 04 July 2024 at 13:58 PM<\/p><hr class=\"no-tts wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body><p><strong>A odd-looking tropical bird has been spotted at Worbarrow Bay near\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/durdle-door-dorset\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lulworth Cove<\/a> in Dorset.<\/strong><\/p><p>The creature in question is a red-footed booby, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/wildlife\/10-of-the-most-colourful-animals-in-the-uk-a-rainbow-of-wildlife-you-never-knew-existed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">colourful<\/a> diving bird that lives year-round in tropical or sub-tropical areas such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.discoverwildlife.com\/animal-facts\/15-species-you-must-see-on-your-galapagos-islands-trip?preview=true\">Gal\u00e1pagos Islands<\/a> in the Pacific Ocean. Usually they don&#8217;t migrate, but this is the third time in eight years that the species has been recorded in the UK.<\/p><p>Divers Jane and Vince Jenkins reported the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/wildlife\/birds\/guide-to-british-seabirds-how-to-identify-and-where-to-see-them\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">seabird<\/a> after filming it perched on their boat on 24 June.<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The red-footed booby lives in tropical or sub-tropical areas such as the Gal\u00e1pagos Islands &#8211; 6,000 miles from Dorset. That&#8217;s not to say it&#8217;s small; it still boasts an impressive one-metre wingspan and stands well over half a metre in height. <\/p><p>&#8220;We sat and watched it preening for around 15 minutes,<strong>&#8220;<\/strong> Vince told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdguides.com\/articles\/rarity-finders-red-footed-booby-in-dorset\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dorest Bird Guides<\/a>. <\/p><p>&#8220;The booby continued with us for a while and it was only when we were halfway back on our return, and doing around 20 knots, that it decided to leave and flew back west towards Worbarrow.&#8221;<\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Incredible scenes in Worbarrow Bay on Monday!
