North of Penzance.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Imber, Wiltshire<\/strong><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/47\/2024\/08\/Imber-Wiltshire.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-191664\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty images<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Imber\u00a0is an eerie\u00a0deserted\u00a0village,\u00a0first recorded in the Domesday Book,\u00a0within the Army\u2019s training area\u00a0on Salisbury Plain. Up until 1943 it was an active village, but then\u00a0the\u00a0entire population of about 150 was evicted to provide an exercise area for\u00a0troops preparing for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/historic-places\/best-d-day-sites\">D Day<\/a> and has been abandoned ever since.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Tyneham, Dorset<\/strong><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/47\/2024\/08\/Tyneham-Dorset.mp4\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Getty video<\/figcaption><\/figure><p>Tyneham, near Lulworth on the Dorset Coast Path,\u00a0is a ghost village abandoned in 1943\u00a0when the Ministry of Defence commandeered it for military training. Now\u00a0part of the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Gunnery School,\u00a0Tyneham\u00a0is only accessible when the Lulworth Ranges are open to the public.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-nether-haddon-derbyshire\"><strong>Nether Haddon, Derbyshire<\/strong><\/h3><p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>The bumps and hollows in the fields opposite Haddon Hall across the A6 as you approach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/bakewell-peak-district\">Bakewell <\/a>are the remains of the village of Nether Haddon. It was depopulated by the Duke of Rutland, although the medieval church still serves as the chapel to the hall.\u00a0<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-burton-dassett-warwickshire\"><strong>Burton\u00a0Dassett, Warwickshire<\/strong><\/h3><figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/c02.purpledshub.com\/uploads\/sites\/47\/2024\/08\/Burton-Dassett.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-191667\"\/><\/figure><p>Now a country park just off the M40 north of Banbury, only the church and a farmhouse remains of a town which was once a rival to the city of Coventry to the north.
