We take a look at the filming locations of the BBC’s popular historical drama, set during the reign of Henry VIII <\/p>

The BBC’s hit historical drama Wolf Hall<\/em> is back for a second series, Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light<\/em>, almost a decade after its first series.<\/strong><\/p>

The Wolf Hall <\/em>TV series is based on a trilogy of novels by the late Hilary Mantel, which depict a fictionalised biography of Thomas Cromwell’s rapid rise to power in Henry VIII’s court. It’s broadcast on BBC One and can also be watched on BBC iPlayer.<\/p>

<\/div> <\/figure> <h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where is <em>Wolf Hall<\/em> filmed?<\/h2> <p>Due to its period Tudor setting, the location team used a number of National Trust and English Heritage properties in the series – with many used across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/best-walks-in-gloucestershire\">Gloucestershire<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/walks\/best-walks-in-somerset\">Somerset<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.countryfile.com\/go-outdoors\/days-out\/wiltshire-travel-guide-history-days-out-walks-places-to-eat-stay\">Wiltshire<\/a>. Signs pointing towards filming locations such as Berkley Castle and Wells Cathedral displayed the letters WH, which were thought to stand for <em>Wolf Hall.<\/em><\/p> <p>Lighting these historical locations proved a challenge in the previous series. To keep the sets as historically accurate as possible, the crew used natural lighting sources (such as candles) wherever they could – which prompted criticism from viewers, who complained it was too dark. Scenes were filmed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrp.org.uk\/hampton-court-palace\/whats-on\/great-hall\/#gs.i3cjor\">The Great Hall<\/a> – making it possibly the first TV drama to ever film interior scenes in the historical room.
