A chunky, furry worm with shimmering bristles might sound like a strange sea creature that you\u2019d only find in far-flung destinations, but they also inhabit UK shores.<\/strong><\/p>

Rye Harbour Discovery Centre<\/a>\u00a0recently gave a good example of this when they shared fascinating\u00a0footage\u00a0of a rare sea mouse<\/a> that washed up at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve in 2022.<\/p>

The sea mouse was washed ashore during a winter storm in 2022\/Barry Yates, Sussex Wildlife Trust<\/em> <\/figcaption> <\/figure>
“This furry creature is a sea mouse, a chunky marine worm. About 15cm long and rarely seen, but in winter, storms can wash them up on the high tide line,\u201d says Sarah Watson, Events Officer at the Rye Harbour Discovery Centre.<\/p>
\u201cThis one was found at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and put back in the sea.\u201d<\/p>
After the first five seconds, the video is sped up by three times, she says, because \u201csea mice are rather slow!”<\/p>
