One of the great joys of wild camping is the chance to sleep under the stars in beautiful rural locations. But how do you know if it\u2019s legal to camp where you want to go, and what should you bring? Here\u2019s how to get the most from a wild camping weekend.<\/p>\n

What is wild camping?<\/h2>\n

Wild camping involves setting up camp outside of a campsite or caravan park and sleeping in your tent the wilderness. You might be doing a multi-day hike and camp in a national park (checking first it is legal to do so) or fancy a micro adventure sleeping in nature.<\/p>\n

It is important to do your research before you set off on a wild camping trip (which is where this guide comes in). Plan your walking routes<\/a> carefully, check the weather conditions, terrain and ensure you\u2019ve got all the gear<\/a> you need to hike and camp safely.<\/p>\n

Many wild campers opt to camp during multi-treks, pitching up late in the day and continuing along the trail early the next morning. This is only allowed in certain parts of the UK so check before plotting your route as you may need to head off the trail to pitch up in a campsite instead.<\/p>\n

The general rule for wild camping is to check whether you can legally camp \u2013 or get permission and it is vital to leave no trace.<\/p>\n

Before heading to the wilderness to\u00a0wild camp, it\u2019s important to check the rules in your region. The majority of England, Wales and Northern Ireland, campers have\u00a0no legal rights so check before you camp or get\u00a0the\u00a0landowner\u2019s permission. Some sites in Scotland, including Loch Lomond<\/a> now require campers to get a permit so do your research before you go.<\/p>\n
