Here’s your daily digest on the BBC Proms 2024. We’ve got all the details you need for the Proms concert taking place on Monday, 29 July at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Need the lowdown on all this year’s BBC Proms? Here’s your guide to the 2024 BBC Proms – every concert, every performer, times, ticket prices and more.

What’s on at the Proms today?

Today’s Proms concert, Prom 14, features the Proms’ most prolific orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra. They will perform Bruckner‘s Symphony No. 1 (and that’s the 1877 Linz version, edited by Nowak, Bruckner fans), as well as the work Aditus by contemporary Estonian composer Erkki-Sven Tüür. In something of an Estonian special, tonight’s conductor is Tüür’s compatriot Paavo Järvi.

Järvi and the BBC SO are also joined by the rising South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim for Beethoven‘s rousing, grandly beautiful Piano Concerto No. 5, also known as the ‘Emperor’. After a grand, boisterous opening movement, the ‘Emperor’ features one of the most sublime slow movements in the piano concerto repertoire. It’s a deserved entry in our list of the greatest piano concertos of all time – in fact, it was one of the very first names on the teamsheet.

Who is Yunchan Lim?

Yunchan Lim is a pianist from South Korea. He made his impact on the world stage in 2022 when, at the tender age of 18, he became the youngest ever winner of the hugely prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

Aged just 20 at the time of his 2024 BBC Proms performance, he has already released a highly acclaimed album of Chopin‘s Etudes on Decca. We gave that disc a glowing review in BBC Music Magazine.
