Slovenia national anthem lyrics: English
Long live all the nations
Who long to see the day
When where the sun travels
Strife shall be banished from the world
That every countryman
Will be free
Not an enemy, but a neighbour shall the foreigner be!
That every countryman
Will be free
Not an enemy, but a neighbour
Not an enemy, but a neighbour shall the foreigner be!
Slovenia national anthem lyrics: Slovene
Žive naj vsi narodi
Ki hrepene dočakat’ dan
Da koder sonce hodi
Prepir iz sveta bo pregnan
Da rojak
Prost bo vsak
Ne vrag, le sosed bo mejak!
Da rojak
Prost bo vsak
Ne vrag, le sosed bo
Ne vrag, le sosed bo mejak!

The anthem is based on ‘Zdravljica’ a poem by the 19th-century RomanticSlovene poet France Prešeren, and inspired by the French ideals of Liberté, égalité, fraternité. Interestingly, when seen in printed form each stanza of the poem is in the shape of a wine cup.
And the music?
The words for Slovenia’s national anthem were set to music by the Slovene composer Stanko Premrl.
