What’s on at the BBC Proms today?
It’s Proms 47 & 48 at the 2024 BBC Proms today. That’s right, a double whammy of Time Lord tunes as the Proms welcomes back the Doctor Who Prom.
This marks the fourth visit to the Proms for Doctor Who, following memorable concerts in 2008, 2010 and 2013.
This year’s shows feature original music from the latest series of Doctor Who by composer Murray Gold, including his brilliant new themes for the Fifteenth Doctor (played by Ncuti Gatwa) and Ruby Sunday (played by Millie Gibson).
Audiences can also expect to hear favourite themes from past adventures, including those written for David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi’s Time Lords, all composed by Gold between 2005 and 2017.
Making his BBC Proms debut is composer Segun Akinola, whose music for Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor will also make an appearance.
Will Ncuti Gatwa be at the Doctor Who Prom?
Full details about the Doctor Who Prom are a closely guarded secret, but you can be sure there will be plenty of surprises and things to see on screen and in the hall itself – that’s if past years are anything to go by!
One thing we do know is that Catherine Tate (Donna Noble in the show) will be presenting the concert, and it’s likely a monster or two will be lurking in the aisles.
Who is performing at the BBC Proms today?
Doctor Who’s ‘house band’, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, will be performing the music, conducted by Alastair King.
They are joined by the London Philharmonic Choir, soprano Aida Garifullina and singers Shahid Abbas Khan, Hollie Buhagiar, Lucie Jones and Tobias Turley.
Will the Doctor Who Prom be on TV?
The Doctor Who Prom will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 from 7pm. The concert will also be filmed for broadcast on television at a later date, so keep an eye out.
What time is tonight’s Prom?
There’s not one but two shows today. The matinee starts at 2.30pm, with an evening performance at 7pm.
While the Doctor Who Prom is a sell-out, there will still be Promming tickets available on the day for £8 (inc. booking fees).
