The Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet has won\u00a0the 2022 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition and receives the top prize of \u00a310,000 in addition to a number of performances and residencies at venues around the world.<\/p>\n
Formed in 2019, the ensemble \u2013 violinists\u00a0Jonathan Schwarz\u00a0and\u00a0Amelie Wallner, violist\u00a0Mayu Konoe\u00a0and cellist\u00a0Lukas Schwarz\u00a0 \u2013 has studied with the Artemis Quartet at the University of the Arts Berlin and at the Escuela Superior de M\u00fasica Reina Sof\u00eda in Madrid with G\u00fcnter Pichler.<\/p>\n
The Quartet also receives most of the Wigmore Competition special prizes, including the Bram Eldering Prize for the best performance of a 19th century quartet (\u00a31,200), the Sidney Griller Award for the best performance of Sally Beamish\u2019s Nine Fragments<\/i> (\u00a31,000), the Haydn Prize (\u00a31,000), the Alan Bradley Mozart Prize (\u00a31,000) and the Twentieth Century Prize (\u00a31,000).<\/p>\n
