The <\/span>Juilliard <\/span>String Quartet,\u00a0<\/span>which celebrates its 75<\/span>th\u00a0<\/span>anniversary this <\/span>season<\/span>,<\/span> has <\/span>named<\/span>\u00a0Molly <\/span>Carr as its new violist, replacing Roger Tapping, who died earlier this year.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Carr, who has been a member of the Juilliard School\u2019s pre-college<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>faculty<\/span>, joins its college faculty with this appointment.<\/span>\u00a0The\u00a0recipient of numerous international awards from such competitions and institutions as the Primrose Competition, Chamber Music America, <\/span>ProMusicis<\/span> Foundation, and the Davidson Institute, she\u00a0<\/span>also serves on the faculties of the <\/span>Manhattan School of Music and Bard College Conservatory.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p><\/div> <\/section> \u2018I am <\/span>honored<\/span> and so grateful to be joining the Juilliard String Quartet, an ensemble that I have looked up to and been inspired by my entire musical life,\u2019 she\u00a0<\/span>said<\/span>. \u2018<\/span>It is such an immense privilege to be invited to follow my late mentor and friend Roger Tapping in carrying on the much-revered, decades-long traditions of this historic quartet.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n Carr joins current Juilliard Quartet members,\u00a0violinists <\/span>Areta<\/span> Zhulla\u00a0<\/span>and <\/span>Ronald Copes and cellist Astrid <\/span>Schween, who comment: \u2018After the loss of our beloved colleague and friend Roger Tapping, we are thrilled to be welcoming Molly Carr as the new violist of the Juilliard String Quartet. Molly brings to our work together fantastic collaborative energy, a deeply probing curiosity and a passion for sharing that has marked the members of the quartet through its history.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n The Quartet\u2019s forthcoming\u00a0season includes premieres <\/span>in Tucson <\/span>of two quartets by <\/span>J\u00f6rg<\/span> Widmann\u00a0<\/span>alongside late quartets by Beethoven.
