Stephen Hough has been awarded a Knighthood for Services to Music in the Queen\u2019s Birthday Honour\u2019s List\u00a0<\/span>2022.\u00a0 He is the first British-born classical pianist to be made a Sir\u00a0<\/span>since Clifford Curzon in 1977.<\/p>\n

The honours, which usually coincide with the Queen\u2019s official birthday, were this year announced two weeks early, on the eve of the Platinum Jubilee weekend, to\u00a0mark the 70th anniversary of her reign.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Other classical artists featured in the 2022 Honour List include Chineke!<\/a><\/strong> founder Chi-Chi Nwanoku, who receives a CBE, and English Concert artistic director Harry Bicket, who receives an OBE.<\/p>\n

A graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music and the Juilliard School, Hough has appeared as a piano soloist at The Proms<\/a><\/strong> 29 times and has an extensive discography of 70 recordings. As a composer, he has been commissioned by Westminster Abbey\u00a0<\/span>and Cathedral, the National Gallery in London, Mus\u00e9e du Louvre, the\u00a0<\/span>Cliburn Foundation, the Tak\u00e1cs Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic Wind\u00a0<\/span>Quintet.\u00a0He was made a CBE in 2014<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n
