But authentic she certainly is. Music, she says, forms a huge part of\u00a0 her earliest memories; even as a toddler she was encouraged to make music for guests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When did she start playing the<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Patricia Kopatchinskaja<\/strong><strong>?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When she was six years old.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Where did she train?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Initially at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where her family settled when she was 13. At 21 she won a scholarship to study in Bern, Switzerland, where she still lives.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Does she have a family?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Yes, her husband is the retired neurologist, former Swiss politician and amateur cellist Lukas Fierz. They have a 16-year-old daughter.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What kind of music does <\/strong><strong>Patricia Kopatchinskaja <\/strong><strong>tend to play?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Although she does play plenty of music by <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/composers\/who-was-the-real-mozart-we-explore-the-man-behind-the-myths\/&quot;\">Mozart<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/classicalmusic.production.wcp.imdserve.com\/features\/works\/top-20-beethoven-works\/&quot;\">Beethoven<\/a><\/strong> and other greats, often with fairly radical interpretations, she has a particular passion for lesser-known and contemporary music. Over the years she has championed composers including \u00a0<strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/classicalmusic.production.wcp.imdserve.com\/features\/articles\/can-you-whistle-schoenberg\/&quot;\">Schoenberg<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/classicalmusic.production.wcp.imdserve.com\/features\/articles\/introduction-berg\/&quot;\">Berg<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/composers\/how-did-anton-webern-die\/&quot;\">Webern<\/a><\/strong>, Ustvolskaya, <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/composers\/guide-ligetis-style\/&quot;\">Ligeti<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0 Kurt\u00e1g, Michael Hersch, Heinz Holliger, Francisco Coll, Mauricio Sotelo and Mart\u00f3n Ill\u00e9s, to name a few. And she has even ventured beyond playing the violin in service of the works she loves. Since 2017, she has performed the voice part of Schoenberg\u2019s <em>Pierrot Lunaire\u00a0<\/em>several times, and in 2018 she teamed up with some friends to make a film based on Kurt Schwitters\u2019s Dadaistic nonsense poem \u2018Ursonate\u2019 written in 1932.
