Hoofmann went on to become one of the <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/artists\/20-greatest-pianists-all-time\/&quot;\">best pianists of all time<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A year later, <strong><a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/composers\/johannes-brahms\/&quot;\">Brahms<\/a><\/strong> made a famous cylinder recording featuring his (just discernible) Hungarian Dance No. 1 on the piano. However, the earliest-born pianist to make a recording of any kind was Carl Reinecke (1824-1910) who made piano rolls of his own works in 1905.
