From 12 to 16 December, BBC Radio 3\u2019s Composer of the Week<\/strong><\/a> is dedicated to a Russian composer who is still relatively little known \u2013 and unjustly so.<\/p>\n

The focus of this week\u2019s programmes is the composer Leokadiya Kashperova<\/strong><\/a> (1872-1940), and the series marks the 150th anniversary of her birth. Exceptionally, the series will feature a number of UK premieres. Plus \u2013 for the first time in the history of Composer of the Week \u2013 the entire week will be made up of specially recorded works.<\/p>\n

For many decades, Leokadiya Kashperova was best known, if at all, as piano teacher to one Igor Stravinsky<\/strong><\/a>. Her full story as a musician and composer has finally now been unearthed, through the researches of Dr Graham Griffiths, supported by Radio 3\u2019s Forgotten Women Composers<\/strong><\/a> project.<\/p>\n
