More than 200 conductors from six continents had applied to take part, and eight semi-finalists were selected for the three competition days, held at Manchester\u2019s Bridgewater Hall.<\/p>\n
Of these eight, three candidates made it into the final on 14 March. Finalists guided the Hall\u00e9 through four works by Mozart<\/strong><\/a>, Elgar<\/strong><\/a>, Sibelius<\/strong><\/a> and Stravinsky<\/strong><\/a>. This year\u2019s finalists were put through their paces in front of an international audience. In a live voting session, the audience members then chose their favourites for recommendation to the panel.<\/p>\n The competition was won by Euan Shields, age 24, who is studying for a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting at the Juilliard School, New York. Euan\u2019s prize is a two-year engagement as assistant conductor to Sir Mark Elder<\/strong><\/a>, the Hall\u00e9\u2019s music director. He\u2019ll also take over the directorship of the Hall\u00e9 Youth Orchestra and will be offered numerous guest conducting appearances.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s been a very intense few days of lots of music making and all of this is still resonating in my head,\u2019 Euan said. \u2018I\u2019m so excited to get to know the entire family of the Hall\u00e9 Orchestra and to learn as much as possible from the musicians of the Hall\u00e9 \u2013 and I\u2019m also very excited to take the Hall\u00e9 Youth Orchestra on a really exciting musical journey over the course of two years.\u2019<\/p>\n The first prize winner of the Siemens Hall\u00e9 International Conductors Competition in 2020 was Delyana Lazarova<\/strong><\/a>, who has since conducted the likes of the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Kammerorchester Basel, Orchestre National de France and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n![\"""\"](\""https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/24\/2023\/03\/01.-HalleSHICC23FinalcreditAlexBurnsthehalle-426a753.jpg?quality=90&resize=620%2C413"\" "\\"\"\"\\"\/")
