It was written for the <a href=\"&quot;https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/articles\/queen-elizabeth-ii-coronation-music\/&quot;\"><strong>Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II<\/strong><\/a> in Westminster Abbey, London, on 2 June 1953.
