It’s not just The Sorcerer’s Apprentice that makes an appearance in Fantasia. We name all the works \u2013\u00a0by the likes of Beethoven, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky \u2013\u00a0that appear in the original 1940 film <\/p>
The 1940 animated film Fantasia\u00a0<\/em>remains one of Walt Disney<\/a><\/strong>\u2018s finest achievements, and helped put classical music in front of a worldwide audience. Disney collaborated with conductor Leopold Stokowski for his third animated film, presenting a feature divided into eight separate segments set to well-known works, seven of which are performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra<\/a>.<\/p>\n The film was originally conceived as a comeback vehicle for Mickey Mouse in which the beloved cartoon character stars in the Sorcerer\u2019s Apprentice<\/em>, but spiralling costs instead convinced Disney to include the short as just one of segments of the feature-length production. Making use of Fantasound, a new \u00a0system developed by Disney and RCA, Fantasia<\/em> was the first commercial film shown in stereo, paving the way for cinematic surround sound.<\/p>\n A sequel was released in 1999, titled\u00a0Fantasia 2000<\/em>, which, like its predecessor, uses pieces of classical music alongside the animated segments, performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with conductor James Levine.<\/p>\n We named\u00a0Fantasia\u00a0<\/em>as one of the best uses of classical music in cartoons<\/strong><\/a>.
