The \u2018staggering virtuosity\u2019 on display in the Variations on a Polish Folk Theme<\/em> was one of the standout moments of this album, a scrapbook of recordings by Zimerman of his fellow countryman Szymanowski\u2019s solo piano works. The composer\u2019s Masques<\/em>, too, came across magnificently in Zimerman\u2019s hands.<\/p>

Marc-Andr\u00e9 Hamelin dug deep to bring out the drama of Faur\u00e9\u2019s Nocturnes<\/em> and Barcarolles<\/em>, indeed the French pianist showcased the power and beauty of the composer\u2019s music through superb technique and careful thought. These are magisterial performances that demand repeated listening.<\/p>
