The nominations for this year’s Oscar for Best Original Score have been announced, with a tightly-contested race of living legends and exciting newcomers.<\/strong><\/p>

Ludwig G\u00f6ransson is probably the most likely to win in this category, having won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score<\/a><\/strong> earlier this month. He is also nominated for the BAFTA this year<\/a><\/strong>, up against fellow Oscar nominees Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things<\/em>) and the late Robbie Robertson, who is posthumously nominated for his score to Killers of the Flower Moon. <\/em><\/p>

This is the first Oscar nomination for Laura Karpman, who wrote the score to American Fiction<\/em>, the comedy-drama based on the 2001 novel Erasure <\/em>by Percival Everett. The story follows a novelist-professor who writes a stereotypically ‘black’ book in an act of satire, only for the book to receive rave reviews and high sales. It will also be Jerskin Fendrix’s first nomination: the 29-year-old composer is the youngest nominee in this category for his film scoring debut with Poor Things. <\/em><\/p>

No-one will be hugely surprised to see John Williams<\/a><\/strong>‘s name in the line-up, having received a record-breaking 54 Oscar nominations over the years. He has broken his own record for having received the most nominations of any living person. The 90-year-old composer was previously nominated for his scores to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom <\/em>(1985) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade <\/em>(1990) in the Indiana Jones <\/em>franchise. <\/p>
