This year, festivals around the world have pulled out all the stops to offer a wonderful range of repertoire, from the crowd-pleasing to the obscure, featuring an even more dazzling line-up of artists.\u00a0Elsewhere we run through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/live-music\/uks-best-classical-music-festivals\">UK&#8217;s best festivals for 2024<\/a><\/strong>, plus the major events in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and the rest of the world. But below, we have the USA and Canada&#8217;s very best classical music festivals for 2024. Corralled into three exuberant days, premieres world, US and New York come thick and fast. <\/p><p>Included are the Soundwalk Collective with Patti Smith, Anna Meredith\u2019s <em>Nuc<\/em> and, performed by Ensemble Klang, Peter Adriaansz\u2019s <em>Environments<\/em>. But contemporary classics are not airbrushed. The Ligeti Quartet salutes <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/composers\/gyorgy-ligeti\">its namesake<\/a><\/strong>; the music of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/artists\/steve-reich\">Steve Reich<\/a><\/strong> re-echoes; and Ekmeles illuminates David Lang\u2019s <em>The Little Match\u00a0Girl Passion<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-may-festival\"><strong>May Festival<\/strong><\/h4><p><em>Cincinnati, OH, 17-25 May<\/em><br\/><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mayfestival.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mayfestival.com<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p>It\u2019s all change in Cincinnati. Last year\u2019s 150th-birthday celebrations concluded, the choralfest steps out with a new festival director at the helm. Pulitzer-Prize-winning co-founder of Bang on a Can, Julia Wolfe curates a series bookended by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/composers\/joseph-haydn-2\">Haydn<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/articles\/story-haydns-creation\">The Creation<\/a><\/strong><\/em> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/composers\/gabriel-faure\">Faur\u00e9<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/articles\/best-recordings-faures-requiem\">Requiem<\/a><\/strong>. A man of the musical theatre to his fingertips, he\u2019d applaud Spoleto 2024\u2019s curtain-up: the world premiere of Layale Caker\u2019s new opera <em>Ruinous Gods<\/em>. After a hectic bout of concert-giving celebrating its half-century, the quartet is on home ground for the annual festival which this year showcases some of those commissioned works. And it\u2019s not afraid to try on the quirky for size \u2013 an ensemble of banjo, bass, tabla and bansuri anyone? <\/p><p>\u2018Becoming Who You Are\u2019 is the appropriate watchword of music director Robert Spano\u2019s celebratory edition. Two operatic evergreens \u2013 Mozart\u2019s <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/works\/mozarts-marriage-of-figaro-guide\">The Marriage of Figaro<\/a><\/strong><\/em> and Humperdinck\u2019s <em>Hansel and Gretel<\/em> \u2013 are complemented by Matthew Aucoin\u2019s <em>Music for New Bodies<\/em> directed by Peter Sellars, and Ren\u00e9e Fleming premieres an orchestral song cycle by Alan Fletcher. <\/p><ul><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/news\/mozart-s-marriage-figaro-voted-greatest-opera-all-time\">Mozart&#8217;s <em>Marriage of Figaro<\/em> voted the greatest opera of all time<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p>Bart\u00f3k\u2019s Concerto for Orchestra, meanwhile, keeps company with an all-star line-up of violinist <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/artists\/who-is-joshua-bell\">Joshua Bell<\/a><\/strong>, cellist Steven Isserlis and pianist Jeremy Denk for Beethoven\u2019s irrepressible Triple Concerto.<\/p><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grand-teton-music-festival\"><strong>Grand Teton Music Festival<\/strong><\/h4><p><em>Jackson Hole, WY, 27 June-17 August<\/em><br\/><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/gtmf.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">gtmf.org<\/a><\/strong><\/p><p>Every summer, over 200 musicians from some 70 orchestras converge on Walk Festival Hall for a two-month jamboree currently under the direction of Donald Runnicles. This year, the hall itself is taking (and giving!) centre stage as Yo-Yo Ma helps celebrate its half-century. <\/p><p>Nestling among well-loved classics are a new work by Detlev Glanert, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/composers\/m\/who-is-missy-mazzoli\">Missy Mazzoli<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s 2022 Violin Concerto and the premiere of a new piece for percussion and orchestra by Clarice Assad.
