Que tout respire&#8217;<\/h6><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/composers\/meyerbeer-giacomo\">Meyerbeer<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0<em>Le proph\u00e8te<\/em>\u00a0has everything you could hope for in a Paris opera. Five acts crammed with love and death and the clash of arms, a vast orchestra, massed marching choruses and a ballet on roller skates. <\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/articles\/what-language-is-opera\">What language is opera sung in?<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>Who better than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/artists\/mark-elder\">Mark Elder<\/a> to make you believe in this tale of the Anabaptist\u2019s false Prophet, based on John of Leiden, who seized the city of M\u00fcnster in the 16th century?<\/p><p>Elder and the LSO bring unerring musical conviction to a performance recorded at the Aix Festival in 2023. <\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/artists\/the-london-symphony-orchestra-five-famous-conductors\">Five famous conductors of the London Symphony Orchestra<\/a><\/li><\/ul><p>Meyerbeer\u2019s penchant for using solo instruments to introduce his numbers is scrupulously observed with fine playing from individual woodwind players and the harpist, while the brass are positively chilling as they intone the Anabaptist\u2019s hymn \u2018Ad nos ad salutarem undam\u2019 a kind of leitmotif throughout the opera.<\/p><p>All credit to the Lyon Op\u00e9ra chorus who have much to sing, but it\u2019s the soloists who make Meyerbeer and the leading trio are cast from strength. <\/p><p>Man\u00e9 Galoyan is a tender-toned Berthe as the Prophet\u2019s fianc\u00e9 with plenty of vocal heft when hellbent on revenge.
