Yes, Deadpool, one of Marvel\u2019s most unorthodox heroes is back on the big screen for the laugh-a-minute, action-packed slice of absurdly brilliant entertainment that is\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>.<\/p>

What\u2019s Deadpool\u2019s backstory?<\/h2>
Starting out as a very human vigilante crimefighter, a terminal cancer diagnosis would have spelled the end for Deadpool (aka Wade Wilson). A life-saving treatment awakened his own latent mutant powers but ultimately left him physically scarred.<\/p>
With new-found abilities (mainly an ability to not die) he really\u00a0really<\/em>\u00a0wants to join The Avengers and help save the world. But they don\u2019t want him.<\/p>
What\u2019s the plot of Deadpool & Wolverine?<\/h2>
In this third film in the franchise Deadpool\u2019s timeline is threatened with annihilation, and the only person who could have helped was Wolverine, but he\u2019s dead (see the film\u00a0Logan<\/em>). So Deadpool takes it upon himself to hoik the former X-man out of a parallel timeline to help him out.<\/p>
The pair\u2019s hate-hate relationship soon blossoms into a full on bromance as they work together to bring down the lethal \u2018Time Ripper\u2019 that is set to consume Deadpool\u2019s timeline.<\/p>
<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Trailer: Deadpool & Wolverine<\/figcaption><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-wrote-the-music-for-nbsp-deadpool-amp-wolverine\">Who wrote the music for\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>?<\/h2>The original score for\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0is by American composer Rob Simonsen.\u00a0<\/p>He follows in the footsteps of composers Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) and Tyler Bates, who each composed the music for\u00a0Deadpool<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Deadpool 2<\/em>.<\/p>Simonsen is a member of The Echo Society, a collective of seven composers whose music for\u00a0Postcard from Earth<\/em>\u00a0was recently performed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/bbc-proms\/\">BBC Proms<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/news\/bbc-proms-today-14-august-2024\">\u2018Reel Change \u2013 Soundtracks at the Cutting Edge\u2019<\/a>).<\/p>Born in St Louis, Missouri, Simonsen studied in Portland, Orgeon and went on to work with composer Mychael Danna on scores like\u00a0Life of Pi<\/em>.<\/p>His most recent scores have included\u00a0Love, Simon<\/em>,\u00a0Ghostbusters: Afterlife<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The Whale<\/em>.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-is-the-score-for-nbsp-deadpool-amp-wolverine-nbsp-like\">What is the score for\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0like?<\/h2>Simonsen has crafted a breathless, colourful and occasionally very funny score for\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>. With orchestra and synths he underlines the \u2018superhero\u2019 elements with energetic, pulsating rhythms, while his main (and suitably heroic) theme is written for solo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/articles\/the-history-of-the-french-horn\">horn<\/a>.<\/p>Given\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0gives more than a nod and a wink to other films and characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Simonsen references themes and motifs from there, including Alan Silvestri\u2019s for\u00a0The Avengers<\/em>.<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/composers\/ludwig-goransson-film-composer-biography\">Who is Ludwig Goransson?<\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/tv-and-film-music\/best-film-scores\">The best film scores of all time<\/a><\/li><\/ul>The eagle-eared will also hear the sound of a cat\u2019s miaow in his score, hilariously dropped in on certain beats.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-songs-are-in-the-nbsp-deadpool-amp-wolverine-nbsp-soundtrack\">What songs are in the\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>\u00a0soundtrack?<\/h2>Simonsen\u2019s score almost takes a backseat to the songs in the soundtrack, which is wall-to-wall with hits, surprises and tongue-in-cheek needle drops.<\/p>From\u00a0Grease<\/em>\u2019s \u2018You\u2019re the One That I Want\u2019 to songs from Hugh Jackman\u2019s other hit film\u00a0The Greatest Showman<\/em>, it\u2019s a brilliant mix.<\/p>Other memorable soundtrack moments include the use of *NSYNC\u2019s \u2018Bye Bye Bye\u2019, Chris de Burgh\u2019s \u2018Lady in Red\u2019 and \u2018The Power of Love\u2019 by Huey Lewis and The News (made famous in\u00a0Back to the Future<\/em>).<\/p><ul><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/tv-and-film-music\/back-to-the-future-musical-guide\">A guide to Back to the Future: The Musical<\/em><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.classical-music.com\/features\/tv-and-film-music\/what-is-the-difference-between-a-film-score-and-film-soundtrack\">Score vs. Soundtrack… what’s the difference?<\/a><\/li><\/ul>Perhaps the best song moment in\u00a0Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em>, though, comes in the finale as the pair work together to destroy the Time Ripper. They do that to the tune of Madonna\u2019s \u2018Like a Prayer\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>Ryan Reynolds himself sought the pop icon\u2019s permission to use her song, but it\u2019s not the version you\u2019ve heard before.
