The prominent British composer and conductor Sir Peter Maxwell Davies (1934\u20132016) was known for his adventurous, often avant-garde music. However, and this may seem paradoxical, ‘Max’ was also deeply wedded to British musical traditions. <\/p>

Over the course of his decades-long career, Maxwell Davies created a huge and hugely varied body of music, including operas, symphonies, choral works, and chamber music. With that blend of adventurous experimentalism and a passion for older musical forms, he’s now recognised as one of the most important composers of the 20th and early 21st centuries.<\/p>
