They are musical superhumans who perform feats that we mortals cannot, for whom things that would make the rest of us quake in our boots are simply part of their jobs.<\/p> Imagine having to go out there and play Busoni<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s Piano Concerto or Beethoven<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s \u2018Hammerklavier\u2019 Sonata<\/a><\/strong> with all the right notes in all the right places, night after night! They are musicians who come equipped not only with the technique to dash off these summits of the repertoire, but the confidence to know that they can do it \u2013 and do it better than they did the night before \u2013 for the duration of their careers.<\/p> And yet when you meet your musical superheroes, you find out that the supreme confidence that\u2019s projected by all that slick marketing, or the serene state of command that stares out at you from the covers of Bach<\/a><\/strong> or Ysay\u00eb<\/a><\/strong> solo violin sonata CDs, isn\u2019t the whole story.<\/p>
