<\/p>
Sheku Kanneh-Mason<\/strong><\/a> appeared on this week\u2019s edition of\u00a0Countryfile\u00a0<\/em>on BBC One, joining Matt Baker in the Malvern Hills \u2013 the hometown of his favourite composer, Sir Edward Elgar.<\/p>\n The 22-year-old cellist also played Countryfile <\/em>presenters Matt Baker and Anita Rani an excerpt from Elgar\u2019s Cello Concerto at St Wulstan\u2019s Church, the composer\u2019s resting place at the foot of the Malvern Hills. \u2018Elgar\u2019s Cello Concerto was always my favourite piece of music and I was always drawn to it,\u2019 he told Baker.<\/p>\n Sheku Kanneh-Mason<\/strong><\/a> is best known for his appearance at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018<\/strong><\/a>, having previously risen to fame as the 2016 winner of BBC Young Musician<\/strong><\/a>. Since then, he has gone on to release recordings of works by Shostakovich and Elgar<\/strong><\/a>. Together with his six talented siblings<\/strong><\/a>, he has performed across the UK and released a debut Kanneh-Mason family album, featuring Saint-Sa\u00ebns\u2019s <\/strong><\/a>The Carnival of the Animals<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n Despite being a long-time admirer of Elgar\u2019s music, it was Kanneh-Mason\u2019s first trip to the Malvern Hills.\u00a0\u2018When you come to places like this, it adds another layer or another dimension \u2013 another connection to the piece of music,\u2019 he says.<\/p>\n Matt Baker also met Dawn Middleton, gardener at Elgar\u2019s birthplace, \u2018The Firs\u2019. We recently named \u2018The Firs\u2019 as one of the best National Trust properties for classical music lovers to visit in the UK<\/strong><\/a>.
